Phyllis Lui is an award-winning Interior Designer and the founder of PippyLui Design Studio Ltd., a boutique Vancouver-based design studio known for thoughtful spaces with personality.
With more than 20 years of experience and over 500 projects across North America, Phyllis has built a career designing homes, multi-family communities, and commercial spaces that balance beauty with real life.
After co-founding Kalu Interiors in 2006 and growing the award-winning firm over two decades, Phyllis launched PippyLui Design Studio in 2026 as a new chapter, one that reflects her own creative voice, philosophy, and love of design.
The name PippyLui is deeply personal. “Pippy” is the nickname given to her by family and close friends, while “Lui” honours her family name and roots. Together, the name represents the warmth, creativity, and personality she brings to her work.
Her signature style, Playful Glamour, blends polished sophistication with colour, character, and a sense of fun. For Phyllis, great design isn't about following a formula but about creating spaces that feel personal, considered, and completely at home with the people who live in them.

THE YORKEEN ROOM
MERRY + BRIGHT
Merry & Bright is a playful take on holiday decorating where traditional Christmas charm meets unexpected colour and contemporary design. Inspired by the joy and nostalgia of the season, this room embraces colour in a fresh, spirited way layering chartreuse and lemon-lime with coral, soft pink, rich green and warm neutrals.
The existing yellow walls provide the perfect backdrop for this colourful celebration, allowing the holiday palette to feel intentional rather than overly themed. A flocked Christmas tree creates a soft wintery moment, while ornaments in unexpected shades of green, chartreuse, pink and coral add personality and a sense of whimsy. The result is festive without feeling overly traditional.
Furniture from Portside Interiors brings warmth and sculptural character to the space, with comfortable seating and natural wood tones creating an inviting setting for gathering. In the living area, comfortable seating is oriented toward the fireplace, creating a cozy focal point and a natural place for conversation.
Décor throughout from The Sultan Event Services adds a joyous feel to the room. A playful sheep adds an element of surprise and humour, reflecting the idea that holiday design doesn't always have to take itself too seriously. Throughout the room, natural textures, greenery and curated accessories balance the brighter colours and bring warmth to the space.
Merry & Bright is ultimately about embracing the fun of the season with a room that feels joyful, welcoming and a little unexpected.
