HAVE YOURSELF A VINTAGE KITSCHY CHRISTMAS
“Have Yourself a Vintage Kitschy Christmas” gives a peek into Santa’s home office on December 26th; when the sleigh is parked, the lists are finished, and absolutely no one is checking emails.
Rather than a polished interpretation of Santa’s study, the space feels collected over decades. An old secretary desk and well-worn worktable hint at years of letter writing, list
checking and the occasional emergency toy repair, while retro lounge chairs, layered rugs, an ottoman and bar cart make the office feel comfortably stuck in another era. Furniture
generously loaned by CF Interiors helps create this wonderfully mismatched mix of old-world workshop and vintage living room.
And then there’s Christmas. Lots of it. The tree is proudly overdone with colourful ornaments, handmade paper chains, tinsel and decorations that have clearly survived many, many Christmases. Nothing is overly polished or precious; the charm is in the clutter, colour and nostalgia. Seasonal greenery and floral details by Hilary Miles Flowers add another layer of abundance and bring a little North Pole magic into the room.
The result is playful, familiar and intentionally kitschy. The room that feels as though you’ve caught Santa at home rather than on display. Christmas is technically over, but no one has
started packing it away yet. After the longest workday of the year, Santa has earned the right to put his feet up, ignore the mess and enjoy a glass of scotch.

This room resonates with the
YWCA BC core value:
Intention resonates with us because thoughtful design starts with listening. At Banfield Design Co., we aim to understand how people truly live, communicate openly throughout the process, and make considered decisions with purpose. We believe good design is not just beautiful, it should be personal, practical, and genuinely meaningful.
