For Dexter Dolores, principal designer of Dexter Dolores Interiors, the holidays have always been rooted in the joy of gathering—unhurried evenings with family, easy laughter with close friends, and the comfort of being welcomed into one another’s homes. As the temperature drops, the season invites moments that range from dressy dinners to relaxed, loungey get-togethers, where formality gives way to board games, shared stories, and the kind of connection that lingers long after the night ends.

The Library was chosen for its natural sense of formality: dark wood panelling, enveloping bookshelves, and a commanding brick-clad fireplace that anchors the room. Rather than arranging the furniture around the hearth in a traditional way, Dexter and his team softened the room’s masculine character with graceful furniture forms from Hetta and Moe’s Home and a layout made for both intimate conversation and cozy group gatherings. Inspired by the British idea of a snug—a warm, tucked-away room for quiet comfort and relaxed socializing—the design turns a formal setting into an inviting holiday hangout.

A spirited palette of powder blue and deep burgundy décor from Garden Works, alongside freeform floral arrangements by Granville Island Florists, works in harmony for playful contrast without competing for attention. Warm wood tones, winter greenery, natural patterns, and layered textures round out the space, creating a curated environment that feels cozy, sophisticated, and delightfully unexpected.
