With the delicacy of a pencil sketch, Himmelhus --Norwegian for 'Sky House'--provides room for your mind to wander. The walls: luminous white contrasting with charcoal grey. The colours: a winter landscape—soft and muted, like the lace of branches against snow. The high ceilings and triangular windows form a transparent peak revealing firs and mountains and clouds. Walk into this space and you can almost feel the sky breathe.
Inspired by her Norwegian roots, Colette Soros has created a minimalist but layered tapestry of velvet, brass, wood, and canvas where what you notice is not the impact of any individual item, but the echoing affinities of a stunning, light-filled gestalt. The modern Scandinavian aesthetic and the chiaroscuro palette create a backdrop for traditional Nordic Christmas decorations, their rustic shapes communicating the timelessness of the season. Candlelight flickers; the smell of cinnamon rises; flowers offer their rich and soothing tones. The children's gifts are wrapped in pale brown paper tied with string and speckled with dried citrus, berries, and herbs. A gingerbread star sits atop a gingerbread tree. And the Christmas tree stands as elegant as a poem.
